Purpose
To receive 2% of tuition charged resident students registered at a medical branch, school or college. Used only for repayment or cancellation of student loans of physicians serving in designated state agencies or economically depressed areas of the state.

H.B. 2154, 81st Leg., R.S. created the new GR Account Physician Education Loan Repayment Program (5144) and exempted it in H.B. 4583, funds consolidation. The new 5144 account replaces this account (0542) to receive tuition set asides, effective 9/01 2009. The balance of this account as of 8/31/2009 shall be available for appropriation or disbursement by the legislature.
