To receive court costs collected from defendants convicted under certain sections of the penal code. Defendants convicted of a felony pay $185, defendants convicted of a Class A or B misdemeanor pay $147 and defendants convicted of a nonjailable misdemeanor pay $62. This account receives 1.4741% of total collections. The account is used in operating and administering the Law Enforcement Management Institute; in studies of police administration, law enforcement management and advanced technical studies relating to law enforcement; and in payment of participation costs of resident students, including tuition, books, rooms, board and travel costs.

Name changed (formerly Law Enforcement Management Institute Fund Account) and administration transferred from the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (407) to Sam Houston State University effective 9-1-93 per H.B. 977, 73rd Leg., R.S.

Effective 01/01/2020, S.B. 346, 86th Leg., R.S. increased court costs for felonies from $133 to $185, Class A or B misdemeanor from $83 to $147 and nonjailable misdemeanors from $40 to $62. S.B. 346 changed percentage from 2.1683% to 1.4741%.
