Purpose

The fund consists of transferred or appropriated amounts; gifts or grants; and investments returns. Receives assets transferred from the Texas Medical Liability Insurance Underwriting Association (Insurance Code Ch. 2203).

Distributions from the fund are for graduate medical education planning and partnership grants to hospitals, medical schools, and community-based, ambulatory patient care centers. For the development of new graduate medical education programs with first-year residency positions. Also used for the rural resident physician program.

The Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company administers and manages the fund's assets and determines the amount available for distribution from the fund. The Higher Education Coordinating board makes grants from the fund.
