Purpose


Consists of legislative appropriations, including amounts from abolished GR Account 5124 - Emerging Technology. Provides funding to eligible research universities for faculty support and to ensure excellence in instruction and research. Appropriated amounts to eligible institutions are based on the average amount of total research funds expended by each institution per year for the three preceding state fiscal years.

Originally added in statute as the Texas Competitive Knowledge Fund by S.B. 215, 83rd Leg., R.S. but not exempted in the funds consolidation bill and not created. Re-created and re-named by H.B. 1000 and H.B. 6, 84th Leg., R.S.

S.B. 632, H.B. 26 and H.B. 7, 84th Leg., R.S. directs amounts from GR Account 5124 to new fund.

Inactivated October 2023. Amounts for this fund are appropriated as General Revenue in the General Appropriations Act.
