Purpose
Account in General Revenue to receive 30% of additional court fines for persons convicted of traffic related offenses, a portion of DWI traffic fines (revenue code 3710) and 60% of certain insurance company fees related to motor vehicle theft (revenue code 3206).
Used to fund designated trauma facilities, county and regional emergency medical services and trauma care systems. May be used by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for graduate-level medical education or nursing education programs.
In each fiscal year the commissioner shall reserve $500,000 for extraordinary emergencies. Money not spent in a fiscal year shall be transferred to the reserve for the following year.
