Purpose
Account in General Revenue to receive 33% of additional court fines for persons convicted of traffic related offenses (revenue code 3710) and 49.5% of the driver responsibility program surcharges (3024). Receives 50% of civil or administrative penalties and late payment penalties collected by a local authority for violation under a photographic traffic signal enforcement system pursuant to §§ 542.406 and 707.007 of the Transportation Code.
Used to fund designated trauma facilities, county and regional emergency medical services and trauma care systems.
In each fiscal year the Commissioner shall reserve $500,000 for extraordinary emergencies. Money not spent in a fiscal year shall be transferred to the reserve for the following year.
May be used by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for graduate-level medical education or nursing education programs.
