Note
Created Acts 2003, 78th Leg., R.S., ch. 1320, § 6, eff. 9/1/03. under TEX. TRANSP. CODE ANN. sec. 504.801. This account was established after the 80th Leg., R.S. appropriated all license plate revenue to the responsible agencies. Administering agency changed by H.B. 3097, 81st Leg., R.S. Administered by Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (608). Previously by Texas Department of Transportation (601).
For revenue from license plates issued by the department upon receipt of an application from a sponsor, payment of the appropriate deposit and approval by the department. The department shall design plates in consultation with the sponsor and may refuse to create a new plate. Fees for the plates are $30.
Prior to H.B. 2202, 83rd Leg., R.S., $8 was deposited to the State Highway Fund 0006 to reimburse the department for administrative costs. The remaining amount was deposited to an account in the General Revenue Fund if the sponsor nominated a state agency to receive the money. If no agency was nominated, the remainder went to the State Highway Fund 0006. H.B. 2202 re-allocated the Fund 0006 amounts to the new Department of Motor Vehicles Fund, which was not created per funds consolidation (H.B. 6). Therefore those allocations go to General Revenue 0001.
H.B. 7, 83rd Leg., R.S. changed deposit of license plate revenue created under Transportation Code, Subchapter G from the GR-dedicated account to the License Plate Trust Fund (0802). Beginning 9-01-13, Subchapter G license plate revenue was deposited to License Plate Trust Fund (0802). H.B. 7, 84th Leg., R.S. abolished General Revenue-dedicated specialty license plate account effective 09/30/2015.
