Description
Specialty plates created by the department on its own initiative or on receipt of an application from a potential sponsor. These are plates created before November 19, 2009. Issuance fee is $30 unless the department sets a higher fee. The department may require a nonrefundable design fee.
Plates created on or after November 19, 2009 are under revenue object 3014 subtitle “Private Vendor Specialty and Souvenir Plates.”

Deposit Funds
- 0010 – Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund ($8 plus the remainder if the sponsor did not nominate a state agency to receive the funds or if there is no sponsor for issuance of plates. 100% of non-refundable design fee if required.)
- 0802 – License Plate Trust Fund (Remainder, if a receiving state agency is designated.)

Remainder previously deposited to 5140 – GR Account - Specialty License Plates General. H.B. 7, 84th Leg., R.S. abolished General Revenue-dedicated specialty license plate account effective 09/30/2015.
S.B. 1512, 84th Leg., R.S. recreated the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund and it was exempted by H.B. 6, 84th Leg., R.S. Deposit changed from General Revenue to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund (0010). Effective 9/1/16.
