Description

  1. Permit for oversize and overweight equipment for transportation. Permit application must be accompanied by filing fee of $60 for a single-trip permit; $120 for permit not exceeding 30 days; $180 for permit not exceeding 60 days; and $240 for permit not exceeding 90 days. Other fees of $270 and $960 apply for certain annual permits determined by the department (§623.076).
  2. In addition each applicant shall pay a highway maintenance fee based on weight group (§623.077):
    • 80,001 to 120,000 pounds, $150
    • 120,001 to 160,000, $225
    • 160,001 to 200,000, $300
    • 200,001 and above, $375
  3. Annual permit application for super heavy or oversize equipment that cannot reasonably be dismantled and doesn't exceed 12 feet in width, 14 feet in height, 110 feet in length or 120,000 pounds gross weight must be accompanied by a fee up to $7,000 (§623.076 and 623.071). 
  4. Department may authorize certain port authorities to issue permits for the movement of oversize or overweight vehicles. The port authority may collect a fee up to $120 per trip, which shall be paid to the department and used, less administrative costs, to fund highway maintenance. The authority may retain administrative costs up to 15% of the fees collected (§623.214).
  5. Victoria county navigation district fee for permit to operate oversize overweight vehicle is $100 per trip (§623.234).
  6. Chambers County fee authorizing permit for movement of oversize or overweight vehicles weighing 100,000 lbs. or less, carrying cars only on FM 1405 and frontage road of Hwy. 99 in Cedar Crossing Business Park. Fee is up to $80 (§623.254).
  7. Permit to transport multiple loads of the same commodity over a state highway if all loads traveling between the same general locations. Permit application must be accompanied by fee up to $9,000. Also includes additional consolidated permit payment in amount up to 15% of the permit fee (§623.0711).
  8. The City of Laredo may charge a fee up to $200 for overweight/oversize vehicles traveling on certain roadways in Webb County. Fees are to be used for maintenance and operations of those roadways. The City of Laredo may use up to 15% for administrative costs. The remained is split between the city and state based on lane mile calculations (§623.384).

Prior to H.B. 2202, 83rd Leg., R.S., the fee under (1) was split 50/50 between General Revenue and the State Highway Fund 0006. The fee under (3), after the $1,000 deposit, the remainder went to Fund 0006. The fees under (2) and (7) were deposited to Fund 0006. H.B. 2202 split the amount deposited to Fund 0006 between Fund 0006 (90%) and the Department of Motor Vehicles Fund (10%). However, the Department of Motor Vehicles Fund was not created per funds consolidation (H.B. 6). Therefore the 10% allocation was deposited to General Revenue 0001 beginning fiscal 2014.
