Description

Persons convicted of certain offenses under the Penal Code pay in addition to all other costs, court costs for special services as follows:

  • A defendant convicted of a felony -- $185.
  • A defendant convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor -- $147.
  • Conviction of a nonjailable misdemeanor -- $62.

GR Account -- Crime Stoppers' Assistance receives 0.2427% of total fees collected.

One time payment up to $50 to another certified crime stopper organization not later than the 60th day after an organization is dissolved or decertified, or forwarded to the comptroller for deposit into GR Account 5012 (42A.301(20)).

Upon conviction at the same time as other fines and court costs

H.B. 2299, 84th Leg., R.S. recodified Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 42.12 to Art. 42A effective January 1, 2017.

Effective 01/01/2020, S.B. 346, 86th Leg., R.S. increased court costs for felonies from $133 to $185, Class A or B misdemeanor from $83 to $147 and nonjailable misdemeanors from $40 to $62. S.B. 346 changed percentage from 02581% to 0.2427%.
