Revenue Object 3014 – Motor Vehicle Registration Fees – Replacement of Registration Insignia

A fee of $6 for replacement registration insignia.

No fee if replacement fee is paid under Section 504.007 (Replacement License Plates).

The fee for replacement of license plates issued under Section 504.507 (Forestry Vehicles) is the amount prescribed by the department as necessary to recover the cost of providing the replacement plates.

A fee of $5 for approval of replacement license plates approved under 504.501(b) (Classic Motor Vehicles and Travel Trailers) or 504.502(c) (Certain Exhibition Vehicles).

At the time of replacement

Amended by H.B. 2553, 81st Leg., R.S. to change title of Transportation Code §502.184 to Replacement of Registration Insignia (from Replacement of Lost, Stolen, or Mutilated License Plate or Registration Insignia) and to raise fee from $5 to $6.

H.B. 2553, 81st Leg., R.S. also moved replacement fee for license plates to Transportation Code §502.1841 (Replacement License Plates). 502.1841 recodified from Transportation Code, Section 502.179 by H.B. 2357 82nd Leg., R.S.

Collecting agency changed from Texas Department of Transportation (601) by H.B. 3097, 81st Leg., R.S.

Redesignated and amended from Transportation Code, Section 502.184 by H.B. 2357, 82nd Leg., R.S.

H.B. 2202, 83rd Leg., R.S. changed deposit from State Highway Fund (0006) to new Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund. New fund was not exempted in funds consolidation bill (H.B. 6) and not created. Therefore, revenue amounts were deposited to General Revenue (0001).

S.B. 1512, 84th Leg., R.S. recreated the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund and it was exempted by H.B. 6, 84th Leg., R.S. Deposit changed from General Revenue to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Fund (0010). Effective 9/1/16.
