Description
The department may charge a fee for processing inquiries for information:
- $10 for each inquiry on criminal history record or public information on basis of person's name, unless the inquiry is submitted electronically or by magnetic media, in which case the fee is $1. (Gov. Code 411.088)
- $15 for each inquiry on criminal history record or public information on basis of fingerprint comparison search (Gov. Code 411.088)
- Actual costs for processing all other inquiries for criminal history record information and for information that is not criminal history record information. (Gov. Code 411.042, 411.088)
- An applicant or licensee to carry a handgun may be furnished a copy of disclosable records regarding the applicant or license holder on request and the payment of a reasonable fee. (Gov. Code 411.192)
- The director may collect a reasonable fee for providing population statistics or other research relating to DNA records. (411.145)
- Director may charge a $6 fee for a copy of a crime laboratory audit. (Gov. Code 411.0205, 411.145)
- The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners may authorize the department to collect from registration applicants the costs incurred for criminal history checks for applications filed on or after Jan. 1, 2014. (Occ. Code 1051.3041)
- The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation may authorize the department to collect from registration applicants the costs incurred for criminal history checks for applications filed on or after Sept. 1, 2017. (Occ. Code 202.2525)
- The Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners may authorize the department to collect from registration applicants the costs incurred for criminal history checks for applications filed on or after Sept. 1, 2017. (Occ. Code 201.313)

The department may not charge a fee for providing criminal history record information to a criminal justice agency, the office of capital and forensic writs, or a public defender's office. (411.088)
