Revenue Object 3175 – Professional Fees – Barbers

Each person, school or shop, before practicing barbering must be licensed at rates set by department for:

1. Examination Fee  
2. Examination Fee for 5 year reinstatement  
3. Renewal Fee, barbers, barber technicians, teacher, wig instructor, wig specialist, manicurist, other licensed specialist  
4. Renewal while in the Armed Forces  
5. Barber School Instructor License Fee
6. Instructor License, original and renewal 
7. Barber Technician Administration Fee 
8. Barber Technician License Fee  
9. Barber School Permit Fee  
10. Barber School Permit Renewal Fee  
11. Temporary Barber Shop Permit Fee 
12. Renewal of Barber Shop Permit  
13. Barber Shop, Specialty Shop, Barber School expired permit more than 30 days - delinquency fee 
14. Duplicate Registrant Certificate 
15. Manicurist Administration Fee
16. Specialty Shop Permit or Renewal Fee  
17. Wig Specialty Shop Renewal Fee  
18. Manicurist Specialty License  
19. Wig Specialist License 
20. Wig Specialist Administration Fee  
21. Wig Instructor Administration Fee  
22. Wig Salon License

24. Reciprocal certificate, at fee prescribed.

31. Application fee for license or certificate issued to an applicant who holds a license issued by another jurisdiction for barber, barber technician and hair weaving specialist.
32. Mini-barbershop license fees

Fees to renew expired licenses are between 1-1/2 to 2 times the normally required renewal fee.

Civil penalties from $25 to $5,000 per day (collected under revenue object 3717). Administrative penalties not to exceed $5,000 per day per violation (collected under revenue object 3770). 

If on January 1 of any year, the amount in the barber school tuition protection account is less than $25,000, the board shall collect a fee from each school by applying a percentage to the schools renewal fee at a rate to bring the account balance to $25,000.

Certificates renewal November 1 of odd numbered years. Shop license renewal July 1, odd numbered years. School license renewal September 1 annually.

H.B. 1560, 87th Leg., R.S. repealed Occupations Code Ch. 1601 (Barbers) and Ch. 1602 (Cosmetology) and amended Ch. 1603 to apply to both barbers and cosmetologists. Therefore, separate barber and cosmetology subtitles inactivated and combined into new subtitle. GR Account 5081 - Barber School Tuition Protection repealed and deposit changed to new GR Account 5192 - Barbering and Cosmetology School Tuition Protection.
