Description
Each individual practitioner, school, establishment or student must pay fees at rates set by the department for examinations, licenses, permits, duplicates and renewals.
Licensed activities include hair cutting/styling, beard/mustache shaving, nail manicuring, and facial cosmetic treatments.
Fees to renew expired licenses are between 1-1/2 to 2 times the normally required renewal fee.
Administrative penalties not to exceed $5,000 per day per violation (collected under revenue object 3770). Civil penalties not to exceed $5,000 per day per violation (collected under revenue object 3717).
Due Date
School license expires on the first anniversary of issue date. Other licenses renewed on the second anniversary of issue date.

H.B. 1560, 87th Leg., R.S. repealed Occupations Code Ch. 1601 (Barbers) and Ch. 1602 (Cosmetology) and amended Ch. 1603 to apply to both barbers and cosmetologists. Therefore, separate barber and cosmetology subtitles inactivated and combined into this new subtitle.
If on January 1 of any year, the amount in GR Account 5192 - Barbering and Cosmetology School Tuition Protection is less than $225,000, the board shall collect a fee from each school by applying a percentage to the schools renewal fee at a rate to bring the account balance to $225,000.
