Created in 1989 by S.B. 1175, 71st Leg. R.S. in TEX. GOV'T CODE ANN. sec.102.021 and TEX. LOC. GOV'T CODE ANN. sec.133.102. For persons convicted of certain offenses under the Penal Code pay in addition to all other costs, court costs for special services as follows:
- A defendant convicted of a felony -- $133.
- A defendant convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor -- $83.
- Conviction of a nonjailable misdemeanor -- $40.
General Revenue (abused children's fund) receives 0.0088% of total fees collected.
Deposited by Comptroller when received from custodian of municipal or county treasury who is required to remit not later than the last day of the month following each calendar quarter. A municipality or county may retain 10% of collections as a service fee. Amended by: H.B. 2578, 72nd Leg., R.S.; H.B. 2272, 75th Leg., R.S.; GR Account -- Abused Children's Counseling formerly received 0.02% of total fees collected. The account was repealed by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., R.S., ch. 1100 § 6(1), effective 9-1-97. Amended by S.B. 1180, H.B. 2424, 78th Leg., R.S.
