A court shall appoint a certified court interpreter or licensed court interpreter if a motion is filed by a party or requested by a witness in a civil or criminal proceeding.
The Judicial Branch Certification Commission (attached to OCA) sets license and exam fees to certify interpreters for individuals who can hear but have no or limited English proficiency.
Note: Health and Human Services Commission (529) certifies court interpreters to interpret proceedings for a hearing impaired individual. See Revenue Object 3562 – Health Related Professional Fees – Interpreters for Persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
