Description


To record the receipts for application to appear upon the official ballot of any special election held for the purpose of filling a vacancy. Each application must be accompanied with a fee as follows:

  • United States Senator $5,000.
  • United States Representative $3,125.
  • State Senator $1,250.
  • State Representative $750.
  • Write-in candidate -- amount prescribed for a candidate for nomination for the same office.

In addition to other fees, state and county candidates must pay a filing fee to the state (statewide office candidate) or county judge (county office candidate).

In lieu of the above fees, the minimum number of signatures that must appear on the petition is 5,000 for a statewide office or for a district, county, or precinct office, the lesser of 500 or 2% of the votes received.
