Description

The Department of Public Safety may charge a fee up to $25 for registering each person who manufactures, distributes, analyzes or dispenses any controlled substance. The Department may charge a late fee of up to $50 for each application for renewal received after expiration date of registration. Each prescription for a controlled substance must be on a prescription sticker approved and issued by the Department. A fee is charged that reflects the actual cost of printing, processing and mailing the stickers at 100 stickers per package.

Registration for dispensing controlled substances for physicians (not more than $50) occurs at the same time as registration for a physician license (see revenue code 3560). For physicians' registration, Texas Medical board accepts both fees and remits the controlled substance registration fee to the Department of Public Safety.

The Department may also charge administrative penalties up to $1,000 per violation per day (collected under Revenue Object 3770).
