Revenue Object 3721 – Court Cost/Crime Stoppers Assistance

 Created in 1990 by S.B. 17, 71st Leg., 6th C.S. in Government Code sec.102.021 and Local Government Code sec.133.102 and in September 1, 1997 by S.B. 1546, 75th Leg., R.S. in Criminal Procedure Code art.42.12 sec.11(a)(21) and Government Code sec.414.010(c).  For persons convicted of certain offenses under the Penal Code pay in addition to all other costs, court costs for special services as follows:

A defendant convicted of a felony -- $133.

A defendant convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor -- $83.

Conviction of a nonjailable misdemeanor -- $40.

GR Account -- Crime Stoppers' Assistance receives 0.2581% of total fees collected.

A judge may order an amount up to $50 per individual to be paid to another certified crime stopper organization not later than the 60th day after an organization is dissolved or decertified, or forwarded to the comptroller for deposit into GR Account -- Crime Stoppers' Assistance. Due upon conviction at the same time as other fines and costs and remitted to Comptroller -- State Fiscal, Agency 902 by the court officer.

Deposited by Comptroller when received from custodian of municipal or county treasury who is required to remit not later than the last day of the month following each calendar quarter. A municipality or county may retain 10% of collections as a service fee. Administered by the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office, Agency 300. Formerly entitled Bail Bond/Personal Bond Fee and deposited to the Crime Stoppers' Assistance Fund (No. 0663). (Repealed by S.B. 17, 71st Leg., 6th C.S.); Amended by: H.B. 2272, 75th Leg., R.S.; S.B. 1180, H.B. 2424, 78th Leg., R.S.  The object closed and replaced with 3704 Court Costs (GR Account 5012) effective 9/1/2012.
