Purpose

Account in the General Revenue Fund consisting of appropriations, benefits realized from a project undertaken with money from the fund, gifts, grants and other donations and interest earned. Used for incentives for collaboration between certain entities, for research awards matching and for acquisition of research superiority. Also used for staff and administration of the fund, including administration by the Governor's Office (H.B. 1188, 80th Leg., R.S.).

 Account was repealed by S.B. 632, H.B. 26 and H.B. 7, 84th Leg., R.S. Authority to wrap up investments was transferred to the Texas Safekeeping Trust Company. After 9/1/2015 unencumbered balances may be appropriated to the Texas Research Incentive Program, Texas University Research Fund (0180), GR Account 5161 - Governor’s University Research Initiative, or GR Account 5107 - Texas Enterprise. The fund is abolished when the comptroller certifies to the governor the final liquidation of the state's portfolio of equity positions and other investments and associated assets by the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company has been completed.
