Created in 1977 by H.B. 451, 65th Leg., R.S. in TEX. GOV'T CODE ANN. sec.102.021 and TEX. LOC. GOV'T CODE ANN. sec.133.102.  For persons convicted of certain offenses under the Penal Code to pay, in addition to all other costs, court costs for special services as follows:

  • A defendant convicted of a felony -- $133.
  • A defendant convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor -- $83.
  • Conviction of a nonjailable misdemeanor -- $40.

GR Account -- Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education receives 5.0034% of total fees collected. GR Account -- Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management receives 2.1683% of total fees collected. Due upon conviction at the same time as other fines and costs and remitted to Comptroller -- State Fiscal, Agency 902 by the court officer.
Deposited by State Comptroller when received from custodian of municipal or county treasury who is required to remit not later than the last day of the month following each calendar quarter. A municipality or county may retain 10% of collections as a service fee. Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, Agency 407 administers account 0116. Continuing education allocations to local law enforcement agencies not later than March 1 of each year. Sam Houston State University, Agency 753 administers account 0581. Amended by: H.B. 790, 68th Leg., R.S.; S.B. 800 70th Leg., R.S.; H.B. 977, 73rd Leg., R.S.; S.B. 1135, 74th Leg., R.S.; H.B. 2272, 75th Leg., R.S.; S.B. 1180, H.B. 2424, 78th Leg., R.S.  The object closed and replaced with 3704 Court Costs (GR Account 0116) and (GR Account 0581) effective 9/1/2012.
