Created in 1987 by H.B. 655, 70th Leg., R.S. under TEX. TRANSP. CODE ANN. § 521.246. If a person's license has been suspended following a conviction of DWI, the court may restrict the person to the operation of a motor vehicle equipped with a device to make the operation of the motor vehicle impractical if alcohol is detected in the breath of the restricted operator. The defendant shall obtain the device at his own cost. The manufacturer shall reimburse DPS for any cost incurred in approving a device. Inactivated in 2008 for non-utilization.
