Motor carriers must maintain liability and property damage insurance covering each motor vehicle operated by the motor carrier and file proof of that insurance with the department. This includes motor carriers operating under a federal motor carrier registration program (Transp. Code 645.002). The department may charge a fee of $100 for filing proof of insurance.
