Description

Fees related to license to carry a handgun:

  • Non-refundable application and license fee (411.174) - $40
  • Duplicate license fee (411.181) - $25
  • Non-refundable renewal fee (411.185) - $40
  • Handgun instructor license to carry fee is $40 and training fee is $100 (411.190)
  • Online course provider fee (411.190) - $25
  • District clerks, county clerks, active and retired judicial officers (411.201) - $25
  • Non-resident license fee (411.173) - set by DPS
  • Original or renewed license for a veteran (411.1951) - $25
  • Original or renewed license for community supervision and juvenile probation officers (411.1953) - $25
  • Dishonored payment charge (411.181, 411.1883, 411.186) - $25

The department shall reduce by 50% any fee for issue of a duplicate or modified license and reduce renewal fees by $5 if:

  • Applicant is indigent. (411.194)
  • Applicant is 60 years old or older. (411.195)

The department shall reduce by 50% any fee for duplicate or modified license if the applicant is a veteran. (411.1951)

The department shall waive any fee for issue of original, duplicate, modified or renewal license for:

  • A member of the U.S. armed forces, including the reserves, national guard or state guard (411.1951)
  • An attorney elected or employed to represent the state in the prosecution of felony cases (411.201)
  • County jailers and state correctional officers (411.1993, 411.1994)
  • Individual that holds a certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Active and honorably retired peace officer license (411.199, 411.1991)

Related Civil Penalties

A license holder who carries a handgun on the property of a state hospital is liable for a civil penalty of $100 for the first violation and $500 for subsequent violations (collected under Revenue Object 3717). (552.002)
