Description


Persons convicted of certain offenses under the Penal Code pay in addition to all other costs, court costs for special services as follows:

  • A defendant convicted of a felony -- $185.
  • A defendant convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor -- $147.
  • Conviction of a nonjailable misdemeanor -- $62.

Deposited by Comptroller when received from custodian of municipal or county treasury, required to remit not later than last day of the month following each calendar quarter.

Municipality or county may retain 10% as a service fee.

Effective 01/01/2020, S.B. 346, 86th Leg., R.S. increased court costs for felonies from $133 to $185, Class A or B misdemeanor from $83 to $147 and nonjailable misdemeanors from $40 to $62. S.B. 346 changed percentage from 1.2090% to 0.8522%.
